Welcome from Ladies Captain Gwen

Happy New Year to all

The Ladies have had a quiet golfing time but have been busy on other fronts this festive season, with an excellent Christmas Bazaar on 3rd December bringing in much needed funds for projects in the pipeline. The Carol Service on 11th December went extremely well with the Ladies being in good voice for their traditional rendition of The Twelve Days of Christmas. The children were excellent as also were the Captains whose voices seem to improve with age. This is a lovely occasion and really gets one into the Christmas spirit.

New Year’s Eve saw about 120 of us celebrating and it was a very good night’s entertainment.  The Ladies New Year’s Golf and Dinner on 7th January was very well attended with the weather being kind to us after strong winds and rain on and off all week. Some excellent scores were recorded over the 13 hole competition and the winner, Val Reynolds, came in with 31 points, whilst the runner-up, Karen Hubbard, had 28 points. Congratulations to both of them. The evening started with a magnificent cabaret show from the “Artificial Limbs”. This troupe of hardy entertainers is made up of members of the Vets Section and many thanks to them for putting on the show for us. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their performance. We then had a lovely meal ably served to us by Captain Paul, Vice-Captain Steve and IPC David. The ladies enjoyed an after dinner drink compliments of Captain Paul. Vice-Captain Jeanette was presented with her Captain’s jumper and was then called upon to announce her Vice-Captain for 2012 - Carol Dulieu - to the accompaniment of hooters, poppers, streamers and cheers. The excellent day ended with a sock and golf ball sweep which always gets a bit rowdy!

I am now winding down my year of captaincy with barely three months left and only a few more events to oversee. I have enjoyed my time and wish Jeanette a successful and enjoyable year ahead.

Now we are into 2012, Olympics year, let’s hope our own sporting achievements match those of our Olympic Team this year! Good Luck to everyone for 2012.
